Blue Berries produces an avalanche of cherry-sized, amethyst-colored clusters. A beautiful balanced tomato flavor with a perfect amount of sweetness and juiciness.
Background:
The Blue Berries tomato is part of the Indigo series. These extraordinary blue, almost black tomatoes have unique properties. They were developed using traditional selection and breeding techniques at Oregon State University, beginning in the 1960s by crossing cultivated tomatoes and wild species from Chile and the Galapagos Islands. Young fruits, when exposed to sunlight, have an indigo-purple skin due to the pigment Anthocyanin (which naturally occurs in blueberries, among other things), a powerful and beneficial antioxidant. The fruits are ready to harvest when the skin at the bottom turns bright pinkish-red, the shoulders are indigo-colored, and the fruits feel soft.
The smallest tomatoes in our assortment are called cherry tomatoes or ping-pong tomatoes, depending on their size. Some varieties are elongated or heart-shaped and are accordingly given a slightly different name. Some are even original, wild species. Most taste extra sweet, a few have a sweet-sour taste. Cherry tomatoes are closest to the original species, perhaps that is why they are generally more resistant to the dreaded potato blight.
