Cherry Tomato 'Blue Pitts'

  • Product number: 291168
  • Origin: South America
  • Latin: Lycopersicon lycopersicum, or also L. esculentum

The surprise starts with the young plants: The leaves turn purple-green! The fruits turn from green, through yellow and orange to deep red, each with a deepening blue cap. All these 5 colors adorn the plant to a colorful splendor. This cherry tomato stores well and the plants are very resistant to Phytophthora.

Do you often grow your tomatoes in the same spot, for example in a greenhouse? Then diseases can develop in the soil, which rootstocks are resistant to, and thus grafting is recommended:
for grafting tomatoes, use this variety: 291110 Tomato 'Landon'. As an aid, we recommend these grafting clips: 847520 Grafting clip 1.5 mm.

The smallest tomatoes in our assortment are called cherry tomatoes or ping-pong tomatoes, depending on their size. Some varieties are elongated or heart-shaped and are given a slightly different name accordingly. Some are even original, wild species. Most taste extra sweet, a few have a sweet and sour taste. Cherry tomatoes are closest to the original species, which is perhaps why they are generally more resistant to the dreaded potato blight.

Sowing method: Sow indoors from March to May. When seedlings are 5 cm tall, transplant them into pots. Provide plenty of light and, from April onwards, harden them off outdoors when the weather is good. Do not plant outdoors before late May. Tomato plants require a lot of water. For this tall or (in a greenhouse) climbing type, side shoots (suckers) must be regularly removed. Plant spacing 60-80 cm.
