An Italian topper with extra dark green, puckered leaves, which led to its name, meaning “blackbird”. This spinach begs to grow large, as is common around the Mediterranean. Harvesting young (as we are used to in the Netherlands) is, of course, also possible. With sufficient spacing, this variety fully develops and is then known to us as "wild spinach": thick, very dark green leaves in a large format. In summer, cultivation is only successful in a shaded place (shade net) with sufficient mulch.
