An ancient variety, first described around 1809 (by Jefferson, Monticello) and already cultivated in US kitchen gardens back then. By 1904, 116 seed houses had included the variety, which says something about its widespread distribution at the time! The tender lettuce forms a loose head with a total size of about 20 cm, nicely mini for a small spot or flower pot. In the 17th and 18th centuries, 'Tennis Ball' was frequently pickled for, among other things, sea voyages. The black-seeded variety matures in 50 days. For year-round cultivation.
