Old-fashioned, elongated stewing lettuce. Very cold-hardy, making it ideal for early or late cultivation.
Fortunately, cos lettuce is back in the spotlight! We're rediscovering this crunchy, slightly spicy lettuce as a delicious raw product. Cos lettuce is healthy and easy to grow. In the past, the heads were tied together a few weeks before harvesting to make them more tender, hence the name. Nowadays, we're accustomed to the taste and even appreciate a little bitterness in raw vegetables. In the past, this lettuce was even briefly cooked in the Netherlands, giving it the old nickname "stewing lettuce." The Romans already ate this lettuce, so it's truly a historical type!
