This Japanese salad vegetable is in fact an Asian turnip top. Like Mizuna, it is very decorative: the plant forms a tuft of dozens of elongated, fresh green, spoon-shaped leaves at the ends with a light vein. The young leaves (baby-leaf) are best suited for eating raw in salads; older leaves are very suitable for stews. The taste is mildly spicy, keep the plants growing well during drought and with late autumn sowing: reasonably hardy!
