Leek 'Bernaerts Winter'

  • Product number: 222410
  • Origin: Europe
  • Latin: Allium porrum

A very strong and productive leek variety that a horticultural family in Sint-Katelijne-Waver (B) has maintained since at least the 1920s. The crop has dark green leaves with, of course, a white shaft and still something of an old-fashioned knob at the bottom. Like some other old winter leek varieties, Bernaerts Winter Leek still has some of the original leek in it: you can sometimes see new shoots at the bottom of the plant, which you can then transplant.

Denominations:
Latin: Allium porrum
Dutch: Prei
Also: Winterprei
English: Leek
