Pumpkins 'Yokohama'

  • Product number: 216455
  • Origin: Japan
  • Latin: Cucurbita moschata

Be amazed with us when you walk into your garden in August-September and find it strewn with strangely shaped pumpkins that resemble large chunks of hardened lava. Grey-black, alien, yet frighteningly beautiful: this unique historic vegetable from Japan, the 'Yokohama' pumpkin, is a visual exploration of Japanese affection for serenity through form and texture.
Dr. W.W. Weaver wrote: the 'Yokohama' possesses one of the most complex flavors I have encountered in any pumpkin I have grown. Everyone's taste buds are different, but I detect hints of Nashi pear, mango, avocado, lemon balm, and if you have experience with tropical fruits, the unmistakable aroma of the persimmon. Can this be a pumpkin? The variety is furthermore a great blessing for gardeners because it is very resistant to borers and powdery mildew.

Pumpkins can be grown outdoors without problems. The growing tips can be pruned regularly and are edible! Harvesting during dry weather provides the best storability. All pumpkins are edible!
