This special pumpkin was already cultivated by Elijah Dickinson in 1835 and was initially called 'Large Cheese Pumpkin'. The fruits can grow quite large, 5-15 kg is normal and outliers of up to 25 kg occur! Externally, the fruits are round to high-round, and after ripening have a glossy smooth skin in a golden-brown color (initially with a waxy layer). The flesh is (when ripe) deep orange, sweet, aromatic, and fine-textured. Truly a big brother to the butternut squash, suitable for all culinary purposes with pumpkins.
Characteristic of Cucurbita moschata varieties is the longer growing period, so start cultivation in time, it is not a "last-minute" variety. Growing in a tunnel naturally eliminates these disadvantages, but our current summers are becoming increasingly suitable for cultivation.
This variety reminds me of the 'Buckskin', which we have lost track of for a while…
Pumpkins can be grown outdoors without problems. The growing tips can be pruned regularly and are edible! Harvesting during dry weather provides the best storability. All pumpkins are edible!
