The origin of this pepper is unknown, but it is believed to be a spontaneous, variegated mutation of the dark-leaved black pepper from Zimbabwe. The fruits grow to 2.5 cm long and change from striped black/green to mottled red when fully ripe. Plants can grow over 50 centimeters tall, but often remain more compact. The peppers are very hot and have a very nice fruity aroma and taste. If you bring the plants indoors in time and prune them occasionally in winter, they can last for many years.
