The younger they are, the whiter the fruits! A young harvested pattypan is delicious. Tip: harvest them once they are 5-8cm in size, and prepare and serve them whole: a true chef's delight!
Pattypan is the French name for a flat, elegant fruit that closely resembles a flying saucer. The fruit is closely related to the zucchini and tastes very similar. The intention is to harvest them (for consumption) young to very young, when the skin still feels "squeaky". It's even more luxurious to harvest them so young that the flower is still attached... Prepared whole in oil, it makes a beautiful dish! To preserve the fruit for display, you should let it ripen on the (compact) plant. Enjoy this beauty!
