Parsnip 'White Gem'

  • Product number: 207270
  • Origin: Europe
  • Latin: Pastinaca sativa

White Gem is a selection from around 1970 from the older variety 'Offenham Market' (around 1900), which was a respected variety at the time. This variety is sweet, productive, canker-resistant, and can even grow in clay and shallow soils.

Sweet, white carrot, cultivated for centuries. Parsnip remains have been found in Switzerland and Southern Germany during excavations from the Stone Age (9000 BC and later). Parsnips became truly popular as a cultivated crop around the turn of the century in Roman Italy. They are quite frost-resistant; their flavor is enhanced after a frost. Please note: in warm and sunny weather, the leaves can cause irritation when harvesting.
