A mysterious nightshade plant, the unripe berries are poisonous. However, the ripe, orange berries are edible and widely consumed in their homeland of Umbria, Italy. They are eaten directly from the bush or made into compote. We read many taste experiences that they taste sweet and have a lot of flavor. First eat a few berries to test, as some people cannot tolerate them.
This nightshade has been used and eaten in Mediterranean cultures for centuries but is not widely cultivated here, usually just eaten from the wild.
Cultivation is very easy, the plants grow almost by themselves. From July until the frost, you can continuously harvest new berries. The plant also propagates itself by seeds if some berries fall and are not picked.
