A substantial tree, ideal for a food forest or a large garden and suitable for all soil types, but it does love moisture! This relative of the Walnut also thrives in a large pot and can then be cultivated as a maxi-bonsai. The delicious, edible nuts are very similar to pecans in shape and growth habit and have a wonderfully sweet taste! The nuts appear in clusters on the tree, and the shell is reddish-brown. As soon as the shell bursts open, the nuts become visible and ripe for picking; you can eat them raw or roasted. Kingnuts live up to their name, being the largest nuts of the Carya genus. Enjoy the golden-yellow autumn colour before the leaves fall... The wood of this tree is used to make tough hickory wood, widely used for tools such as axes, hammers, etc.
