This is an ornamental, perennial plant, native to South America and occasionally commercially grown for its unique edible fruits.
The plant forms large, hairy leaves (green with a purple tinge) with small thorns on the petioles. Its vigorous growth is remarkable; place the plant outdoors in summer, and occasional pruning is allowed. When the plant enters its second year (keep it indoors during winter), blue-white flowers will appear, followed by tasty (and hairy) orange fruits. Delicious and exotic, you can make a wonderful juice from it! This virtually disease-free fruit plant is closely related to the other Lulo (190810)
