Since humankind became aware of cultivation and domestication, this legume has been on the menu. This vetch probably made its way from Asia to Southern Europe via the Silk Road. These beans should be placed somewhere between pigeon peas, broad beans and peas. Beautiful plants, lilac-pink flowers, each hairy pod contains 6 beans, which are eaten both fresh and dried. Very nutritious, a pleasant taste, needs to be rediscovered.
Plants of all legumes, including this vetch, provide nourishment to the soil. Both the leaf and the pod are healthy as fodder. Give the plants some support from each other or from a low stake, the height usually reaches around 70-90 cm.
