A true curiosity! Flat-round with broad ribs and covered with dark and light-green bumps and warts on a creamy white background. Fruits weighing 3-4 kg are not uncommon; in our climate, allow for 1 fruit per plant unless you use early heating.
True Cantaloupe (Cantalupensis group) Very old, beautiful varieties. Typically, they have a rough, bumpy or warty skin. The fruit exudes a musky aroma and scent, the leaves are lobed and (often) heart-shaped. The flesh is orange or green and the skin is always netted. Cantaloupe is the French spelling for the Italian Cantaluppi, the estate of the popes, where in the early Middle Ages melons from the then accessible world were collected and cultivated.
