This heirloom variety produces a good number of round fruits, 10 cm in diameter and 20 cm long, over a long period. The orange flesh has a fine, fresh sweet taste. The fruits are deeply ribbed, sometimes slightly bumpy. The vigorous growth of the plants is striking!
True Cantaloupe (Cantalupensis group) Very old, beautiful varieties. Typical is the rough, bumpy or warty skin. The fruit exudes a musky aroma and scent, the leaves are lobed and (often) heart-shaped. The flesh is orange or green and the rind is always netted. Cantaloupe (Dutch: Kanteloep) is the French spelling for the Italian Cantaluppi, the popes' estate, where in the early Middle Ages melons from the then accessible world were collected and cultivated.
