This historic variety is one of the oldest cultivated varieties in the US. Its beautiful netting gives the fruit a white-grey veining with a green background, resembling nutmeg seeds. The large yield per plant, combined with its fantastic flavour (sweet and aromatic), make this small melon a popular variety. The fruits weigh an average of 1 kg and ripen (under glass) in 80 days after transplanting. The flesh ripens from green (fresh) to light orange (sweet).
Cantaloupe or Netted Melon (Reticulatus group) Vining, with a musky aroma and scent, lobed and (often) heart-shaped leaves. The flesh is orange or green, and the skin is always netted. Cantaloupe (Dutch: Kanteloep) is the French spelling for the Italian Cantaluppi, the popes' estate, where melons from the then-accessible world were collected and cultivated in the early Middle Ages.
