A beautiful, very dark green melon that turns yellow-beige when ripe. This old French variety originated around 1750. The medium-sized fruits have light orange flesh, ripen early, and yield several fruits per plant. Enjoy its complex, unique flavor.
True Cantaloup (Cantalupensis group) Very old, beautiful varieties. Typical characteristics include a rough, bumpy, or warty rind. The fruit emits a musky aroma and scent, and the leaves are lobed and (often) heart-shaped. The flesh is orange or green, and the rind is always reticulated. Cantaloup (Dutch: Kanteloep) is the French spelling for the Italian Cantaluppi, the papal estate where melons from the then-accessible world were collected and cultivated in the early Middle Ages.
