The name says it all: orange flesh and deliciously sweet! The small seed cavity can be delightfully filled with ice cream, port, or liqueur... Unripe, it's also excellent as a raw vegetable. The fruits are 10-15 cm in diameter, suitable for climbing. It's advisable to hang the fruits in a net from wires to prevent the plant from tearing. The exterior of the fruits comes in 2 varieties: tightly ribbed fruits, green marbled with a light netting, or beige with more netting; we don't know beforehand which we'll get. A fertile variety with 6-8 melons per plant.
Cantaloupe or Netted melon (Reticulatus group) Vining, with musky aroma and scent, lobed and (often) heart-shaped leaves. The flesh is orange or green, and the skin is always netted. Cantaloupe (Dutch: Kanteloep) is the French spelling for the Italian Cantaluppi, the popes' estate, where in the early Middle Ages, melons from the then accessible world were collected and cultivated.
