The Romans could not have known (to the full extent) how incredibly healthy flaxseed is as an addition to, for example, salads or ground into yoghurt, yet they were already doing it! The fact is that this oil-rich seed was on the menu of a good meal, if only for bowel regularity... As sprouts, it is delicious in salads or (as a last addition) in stir-fries. The blue flowers are very ornamental, and after flowering, the plant is also used for its fibre (linen). For cultivation as flax (fibre): 300-500 g per 100 m² (depending on soil fertility)
