Cucumber 'Salt and Pepper'

  • Product number: 124275
  • Origin: South Asia
  • Latin: Cucumis sativus

These small, white cucumbers are suitable for fresh consumption but can also be pickled. The fruits grow to 7-13 cm long, are creamy white (freshly picked with black spines that you can easily wipe off) and have a very good flavor. 'Salt and Pepper' is a breeding product of Jason Cavatorta and Molly Jahn (Cornell University) and won the 'Green Thumb Award' in 2011. The leaves are quite resistant to fungal diseases.
For grafting cucumbers, use this variety: 133000 'Boule de Siam'. As a tool, we recommend these grafting clips: 847525 Grafting clip 2.5 mm.

GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO CUCUMBERS:
Cucumbers that produce long vines should be pruned regularly. For outdoor cultivation, a reasonable summer is needed (depending on the variety) and all varieties grow well in a greenhouse. Sometimes it is advisable to let the plant grow outside if fruit set fails! Cucumbers are usually harvested unripe, unless the skin becomes extra attractive upon ripening. Unripe fruits are sliced and used raw in salads; ripe fruits can be scooped out like a melon. Many small cucumber varieties or (extremely) young harvested fruits are eaten as gherkins (pickled) or as a healthy snack with a drink or meal. Pay attention to the individual description of our species and varieties; some are purely ornamental and NOT edible!
