An attractive, evergreen indoor, container, and with a bit of luck, even hardy outdoor plant! Originating from South Africa (e.g., along the Kei River), the plant grows into a small tree but can also be very well shaped and pruned. As a shrub or hedge, they are planted to deter uninvited guests due to their sharp thorns. After pollination of the female flowers, tasty fruits develop, which are ripe when they are about 6 cm in diameter and yellow-orange in color. The taste is reminiscent of apples, the fruits are packed with vitamins and can appear after 4 years. Protect the plants if the temperature drops below -6°C. Salty air and saline soil are not a problem.
