An interesting tree for the (sub)tropics, so in our climate, it can only be grown in pots! The young leaves and shoots are eaten as vegetables in Thailand and Indonesia. In Hindu culture, the older (aromatic) leaves are used as offerings to the god Shiva. For this reason, the tree is planted in temple gardens in India. Older plants can bear fruit, but you'll need to be patient... These have a woody rind, so a good whack with a hammer is needed to open them. The warm yellow, juicy, and very soft pulp is aromatic, sweet-sour, and very tasty!
