An unknown plant with edible leaves and fruits!
The Hottentot fig is a plant from the ice plant family (Aizoaceae). The plant was introduced from South Africa and can now be found in many European countries, especially along the coast. Several related species also occur in European coastal areas.
It is a creeping plant that can spread considerably, forming cushions 25-30 cm high. They grow on rocks, cliffs, and sandy soil and prevent erosion! The 10 cm long leaves are bright green, succulent, and triangular.
The beautiful pink (sometimes yellow) flowers ripen into fleshy capsule fruits, which (when fully ripe) are a delicacy: excitingly slimy (like an oyster) and sweet and sour. You can also dry the fruits; more information can be found here: https://www.greenidiom.com/Carpobrotus-edulis.html
Medicinally, the plant is used against bacterial diseases and (possibly) preventively against cancer.
