An ideal "Tom Thumb" among the pea family. Ideal for pots, raised garden beds (square meter gardens), or simply for a small spot in the garden. The plants grow only 40-50 cm tall and yield an abundant harvest of delicious sweet snow peas. Tip: Sow this legume alternately with Gold of Pleasure (390300) for natural support.
We received this beautiful, early pea from Ruurd Walrecht. We maintain the variety and pack small bags for our customers to potentially propagate it further.
Ruurd wrote to me: I originally obtained Låg Tidig Sockerärt from the CGN (gene bank in Wageningen). It is a variety from Hammenhög, a Swedish breeding company comparable to Mansholt's at the time. "Låg" because it is a low crop for the cold frame, "Tidig" because it is a very timely (= early) variety. A snow pea is called sockerärt in Swedish. This variety is purple-flowering and can withstand colder weather better than a white-flowering one. I use it together with Venlose Bak shelling pea in my cultivation plan for the cold frame because they are both so low and don't touch the glass. They are also very suitable for pre- and intercropping gherkins and early carrots.
