From an old tradition in many regions of the Netherlands, now mainly known in North Holland, Friesland, and Groningen. Not to be confused with, but related to the marrowfat pea. The brown marbled peas are large and angular in shape, just like raisins. The taste is pleasantly floury with more aroma than the marrowfat pea. The name "stam" (stem/bush) suggests that the plant is compact, but these grey peas are medium-height: 100 cm (sandy soil) to 150 cm (clay soil). Tip: sow this legume alternately with Camelina (390900) for natural support.
