Lemon Melon 10 Seeds

  • Product number: 072200
  • Origin: Africa
  • Latin: Citrullus lanatus var citroides

This wild melon is the ancestor of our well-known watermelon and grows wild in Africa; the Kalahari Desert is full of it... A few thousand years ago, the Egyptians were already using this fruit! Due to all the global seed transport, the plant has also naturalized in Mexico. The firm white flesh is often used for thickening jam due to its high pectin content, but cut into pieces, you can also stir-fry it, some people find it very tasty raw, and pickled (like gherkins) is also very nice. In Africa, animals love it and get nourishment and moisture this way during dry periods. On the outside, the fruits resemble a beautiful watermelon, but if you cut them open, you immediately see the typical characteristics of the Citron Melon: white flesh and red seeds! The fruits can be stored for months after harvesting (sometimes even a full year).
