WHAT A TASTE SENSATION!
In 2008, collector Helton Muniz was at the "Projeto Colecionando Frutas" (fruit collection project) in the Angatuba forest (São Paulo) and discovered this species.
Since then, he has succeeded in cultivating this rare species, and a few years later, the first seeds reached Europe.
The Juã-Açu is simply amazing in taste. Very exotic. You can taste kiwi, apricot, achachairu, orange, and passion fruit. Unbelievable how versatile the taste of a "Solanum" can be.
These Juã-Açu seeds are also interesting for people who already own this fruit plant.
You will then have another plant for cross-pollination (which is often an advantage). So it is best to grow 2 plants close to each other.
In Northern Europe, they do not flower in the first year, but rather in the second or third year. They then bear fruit for at least 6 years. Overwinter at a minimum of 10 degrees (even though it can tolerate -3 briefly). The plant grows quite large with big leaves and thorns, it dies back and comes back in the spring.
