Broad Beans '(Early Broad) Witkiem' 100g

  • Product number: 050400
  • Origin: Mediterranean region
  • Latin: Vicia faba

An old-fashioned, coarse type, with a distinct (old-fashioned) broad bean flavour. Due to the light brown discolouration after cooking, which is typical for strong-flavoured broad beans, this old variety is classified as a 'brown cooker'. Even darker, reddish-brown broad beans can be found elsewhere in our assortment. This type is well-suited for freezing and can be harvested relatively early. The variety owes the name "witkiem" (white germ) to its white hilum (in contrast to the Leidse Hangers)

Denominations:
Latin: Vicia faba

"Ik ben in de bonen" means: "I am confused." According to Van Dale's Large Dictionary of Idioms (2006), this saying originates from an old superstition. In the past, people believed that broad beans released an intoxicating scent during their blooming period, which could even lead to insanity if one fell asleep nearby.
