A very productive, old, traditional broad bean from the municipality of Solberga in Bohuslän (Sweden), where it has been cultivated for hundreds of years and is a very important staple food. Linnaeus' student Pehr Kalm, who described the variety during his journey in 1742, considered it the best broad bean of his time in the area known to him. They are grown by Lars and Lennart Eliasson in Ödsmåls Västergård in Solberga.
The bean is slightly smaller and finer than we are used to today, but according to the magazine Trädgården from 1916, the Bohusländ broad bean is praised as "these surpass the field beans generally grown in gardens."
