Dry Beans, Pole 'Wieringer' / 'Wirringer' 100g

  • Product number: 045389
  • Origin: Central America
  • Latin: Phaseolus vulgaris

The Wieringer bean was already growing on Wieringen when it was still a Zuiderzee island! This beautiful shelling bean had actually almost disappeared, but thanks to a Wieringen family who emigrated to the US, the bean has been brought back: thanks to the diligence of Eb de Vries, the bean is available again! Since then, this fine bean has been treasured for its appearance: white with a large, light brown spot around the navel, and its taste: firm and refined. The plant is bushy (60 cm high) and yields a large harvest. Harvested very young, the bean rivals many string beans!

Dry beans are harvested in different ways. Some varieties can also be eaten with the whole pod, others can only be eaten fresh or (mature) dry. Tip for storing dry beans: to prevent any bean fly eggs from hatching, place the well-dried beans in the freezer for 24 hours.
