RARE BEAN VARIETY!
A very prolific climbing bean, the pods of which can be shelled fresh (like a flageolet bean) or harvested completely dry. The fresh beans are bright blue, expect 6 beans per pod, and the dry beans turn almost black and can then, of course, be stored for a long time.
This beautiful, pink-flowering bean originated from spontaneous cross-pollination in Lisa Bloodnick's seed saver field in Apalachin (Bloodnick Farm). Our Dutch grower further propagated the variety for us... After some experimentation, Lisa found in 2018 that the variety was pure enough. It was a very wet year, and 'Sacre Bleu' was the only one that suffered almost no mildew, which is a desirable trait for a bean that needs to be harvested when fully ripe!
Dry beans are harvested in various ways. Some varieties are edible with the whole pod, while others can only be eaten fresh or (mature) dry. Tip for storing dry beans: to prevent the hatching of any bean weevil eggs, place the well-dried beans in the freezer for 24 hours.
