The resemblance to cranberries, but also (as the name suggests) to cherry pits, is striking! These beans are primarily grown for their dried beans. In the ornamental garden, they are by no means out of place due to their violet-pink blossoms! The climbing plants produce broad, slightly curved pods of 11-12 cm long, each containing 7 small beans. Sometimes we mix these dark red beans with the beautiful light brown 'Herrenböhnli'.
Dried beans are harvested in various ways. Some varieties can also be eaten with the whole pod, while others can only be eaten fresh or (matured) dried. Tip for storing dried beans: to prevent any bean weevil eggs from hatching, place the well-dried beans in the freezer for 24 hours.
