How beautiful the vegetable garden can be sometimes..... You probably already found those red Runner Beans very attractive, but here's a reintroduction of an old English variety: a fantastic, two-tone flowering type: red in bud, blooming with white "lips" and red "flags". As a bonus, a huge harvest!
Runner beans are very hardy beans; use the climbing varieties as a windbreak for regular snap beans. Picked young, they are at least as tasty. If the beans hang too long, the individual beans (seeds) can be shelled. These are known as 'potato beans'. Runner beans are also quite resistant to salty winds.
