Runner Bean (Pole) 'Mountain Runner'

  • Product number: 041650
  • Origin: Central and South America
  • Latin: Phaseolus coccineus, also known as Phaseolus multiflorus

These red-flowering runner beans will amaze you! The pod length can grow up to 60 cm with a little help! You grow this champion candidate not only for a competition, but also because the taste and yield are very good! Are you participating in a competition? Then make sure the plant can grow well first, mulch the soil and water when the weather is dry. Is the plant not yet at the top of the poles but is it going to flower anyway? Then pick those flowers off first. Once the plant is large enough, flowering can begin and the first pods can form. Allow a maximum of 5 pods to form on 1 plant, so that all the energy goes into that fruit growth. This way you can become the champion of the Netherlands (or at least of your area).

Runner beans are very strong beans; use the climbing varieties as a windbreak for ordinary French beans. Picked young, they are at least as tasty. If the beans hang for too long, the individual beans (seeds) can be shelled. These are known as 'potato beans'. Runner beans are also quite resistant to salty winds.

Names:
Latin: Phaseolus coccineus, or Phaseolus multiflorus
