Runner Bean (Climbing) 'Enorma'

  • Product number: 041520
  • Origin: Central and South America
  • Latin: Phaseolus coccineus, also known as Phaseolus multiflorus

A red-flowering bean with a large harvest of fairly long pods with good flavour and texture. This climbing variety grows on stakes 2-3m long.

Runner beans are very hardy beans; use the climbing varieties as a windbreak for regular string beans. When picked young, they are at least as tasty. If the beans hang too long, the individual beans (seeds) can be shelled. These are known as 'potato beans'. Runner beans are also quite resistant to salty winds.

Names:
Latin: Phaseolus coccineus, or also Phaseolus multiflorus
Dutch: Pronkbonen
Also known as: Aardappelboontje
English: Runner Bean
