Runner Beans (Climbing) 'Emergo Stringless Mergoles'

  • Product number: 041500
  • Origin: Central America
  • Latin: Phaseolus coccineus, also known as Phaseolus multiflorus

'Mergoles' is a selection from the old, white-flowered 'Emergo', but remains extra tender and stringless for a longer period, allowing you to harvest the beans when they are more mature.

Runner beans are very hardy beans; use the climbing varieties as a windbreak for common French beans. When picked young, they are just as tasty. If the beans are left on the plant for too long, the individual beans (seeds) can be shelled. These are known as 'potato beans'. Runner beans are also quite resistant to salty winds.

Names:
Latin: Phaseolus coccineus, or Phaseolus multiflorus
Dutch: Pronkbonen
Also known as: Aardappelboontje
English: Runner Bean
