With this, you bring a real show bean into your home. The English call this variety the "Exhibitor's Runner Bean" because of its record pod length of 40-50 cm! This, of course, also includes a record width of almost 2.5 cm. Let a few grow to set a record in your garden…! For the rest: picking them young gives the tenderest bite. Red-flowering, red with black seeds.
Runner beans are very strong beans. Use the climbing varieties as a windbreak for regular string beans; picked young, they are at least as tasty. If the beans hang too long, the individual beans (seeds) can be shelled. These are known as 'potato beans'. Runner beans are also quite resistant to salty winds.
