This fruit vegetable grows into a branched plant 1 m high and bears numerous clusters of blue berries (diameter 3-4 cm). Despite its resemblance to the poisonous black nightshade, this species is absolutely edible and therefore not poisonous! Pick them ripe, for sweet preserves on pies and puddings. Sweet and sour (with sugar, salt and ginger) is very tasty with meat and cheese! They are ripe when they are almost black and become dull, they are then optimally soft and juicy. Preferably wait until after the first frosts. Although eating them raw is completely harmless, it is better to sweeten or process them for the taste. Incidentally, the wild Black Nightshade (weed in your garden) can also be eaten cooked. (Africa)
