(before 1935) A substantial beet that yields an enormous harvest of elongated beets. If allowed to grow on, the exterior may become somewhat less attractive in colour, but it's the delicious interior that counts: an aromatic, sufficiently sweet, red beet. Harvesting young gives a fresher, but less "wild" taste. This variety is maintained within the "Eeuwig Moes" collection. The foliage is reddish-green, with more intense colour in full sun, which explains the name "Zwartblad" (Blackleaf). When stored in (slightly moist) coarse sand, the beets can be eaten all winter.
