You don't see them often, but for the hobbyist, this purple asparagus (cream-green inside) is a taste sensation! 20% sweeter and certainly more aromatic than many other varieties, this vigorously growing (tetraploid) elegant variety yields its first harvest from the 3rd year. It's at its best raw (in salads), and when briefly cooked or steamed, it retains its vibrant purple color; when cooked longer, it turns dark green.
Tip: for growing bleached (white) asparagus, asparagus film is very useful! See 845005
Perennial crop, grows best in light soil, well-worked clay can also work. Harvesting can begin in the 4th year after sowing.
