Round, white or light green fruits the size of a tomato. After turning white, the fruits ripen to yellow, but you harvest them unripe. The bitter taste is cleverly utilized in Indonesian or Surinamese dishes. The glossy leaves are particularly popular and are called Gboma. Especially the young leaves are used to roll dishes, then steam or fry them. In all countries of Central Africa (west, central and east), this "spinach" is loved and eaten as a bitter delicacy. Cultivation in a greenhouse or sheltered outdoors.
