Endive 'Gele Volhart' / 'Late Herfst'

  • Product number: 009000
  • Origin: Mediterranean Sea region
  • Latin: Endive

Beautiful old variety, particularly suitable for late summer and autumn cultivation. The heads ("chairs") are tender and light green in colour. Try the old cultivation method of tying up the heads or covering the heart with a terracotta pot: in a few weeks, a bright yellow and extra tender heart will form!

The chicory family includes endive, curly endive, and various types of witloof (Belgian endive). Characteristic is the more or less present "bitter note", formerly despised and now highly valued. Let a plant "bolt" once: chicory flowers are usually beautifully blue in colour and smell of vanilla!

Names:
Latin: Cichorium endivia
Dutch: Andijvie
English: Endive
