Endive 'Broad-leaved Full Heart Winter'

  • Product number: 008000
  • Origin: Mediterranean region
  • Latin: Endive

This variety is perfectly suited for autumn and winter use. Sown before August, and with sufficient nutrients and water, it develops heavy, bushy heads with a yellow and tender heart. A traditional method for achieving an extra tender inner part is to tie the heads together with raffia a few weeks before harvesting.

The chicory family includes endive, curly endive, and various types of chicory. Characteristic is the more or less present "bitterness," once reviled and now highly appreciated. Let a plant "bolt" sometime: chicory flowers are usually beautifully blue and smell of vanilla!

Names:
Latin: Cichorium endivia
