Endive 'Eros'

Currently one of the most versatile endives, a grower's variety with many advantages for the hobbyist:
1. A long harvest period (May-October), Eros is suitable for spring, summer, and autumn cultivation.
2. Good color, thus attractive on the plate.
3. Does not bolt quickly, which is important for crops before July.
4. Beautifully filled, yellow heart. Good chance of high yield, although that partly depends on the soil and fertilization.
5. Upright growth habit, which minimizes problems (rot, blight) with the bottom and makes harvesting easy.

The chicory family includes endive, radicchio, and various types of chicory. Characteristic is the more or less present "bitterness," formerly reviled and now highly appreciated. Let a plant "bolt" sometime: chicory flowers are usually beautifully blue in color and smell of vanilla!
