An original crop with broad, lance-shaped leaves and a spherical inflorescence in a charming 2-tone: yellow with a mahogany-red centre. Description: Piquant taste and spicy like pepper. The leaves of this popular vegetable (in Madagascar and around the entire Indian Ocean) are, for example, suitable in spicy salads with rocket and coriander leaves. Good tip (from experience!) for healing chronically dry eyes (e.g. after eye surgery): use the spent flower buds and take a very small piece.
Chew this whole thing, and your eyes will be activated for days. (If you take a whole bud, you'll have quite an overdose and a numb mouth for a few minutes). Sow in mid-May and transplant at 40 cm spacing at the end of June. Koppert has now also discovered this variety and describes it as follows: Gives a very surprising taste that comes through as tingling, peppery and spicy. Initially appears young and green, only to later become stimulating. Provides a surprise element in amuse-bouches. (Source: www.saisonnier.net)
