Long-awaited, feared by the seed potato industry, but unstoppable: professional potatoes from seed! We have been selling potatoes from seed for years, but these are not suitable for the professional market because it demands uniformity, meaning the tubers must be harvestable at the same time and have the same (reliable) characteristics. Similar, therefore, to the varieties you buy in tuber form. As breeding knowledge continues to increase, it has been possible to reduce the complex multitude of characteristics inherent in every regular potato, resulting in crosses that yield very reliable F1 hybrids. The end product is referred to as TPS = True Potato Seeds. It is still in its infancy, but the first promising variety is ready. The name, however, is not yet "finalized"; a good-sounding final name still needs to be coined. I am thinking (off the cuff) of Sol Gold, which honours the pioneering company Solynta and characterises this variety with its beautiful and tasty golden-yellow flesh.
Let's briefly list the characteristics:
The potato yields a large harvest, shortly after the early harvests, the taste of the rather firm, golden-yellow flesh is excellent, and its storability is normal.
