This is the famous, fragrant variety whose essential oil is used in confectionery (e.g. After Eight). You can also make a strong tea with it, and of course use it for all the other mint applications you know from cooking.
Most mint varieties of the genus Mentha grow in the sun or in the shade. In the sun, the most compact growth and the most intense colour, scent and flavour develop. Each variety goes through 2 growth stages: in spring there is a growth spurt upwards for flowering. After that, horizontally (hard) growing runners develop, which grow into new plants in another location. Bees and butterflies love mint flowers.
